How many years is IGNOU MCA?

IGNOU programmes are paced by the student. The minimum duration is 2 years across 4 semesters. The maximum allowed duration is 5 years — you can stretch if work or family commitments demand it, paying only for the semester you activate. Most of our community finishes in the minimum window.

What is the eligibility for IGNOU MCA 2026?

A recognised bachelor's degree of 3+ years with Mathematics at 10+2 OR at graduation qualifies you. BCA, B.Sc. (Maths/CS), B.Tech, and equivalent graduates qualify directly. Students without maths can do the IGNOU CIT or BCA bridge first, then enter MCA in the next cycle.

What is the IGNOU MCA new syllabus 2026?

The MCA New (2020 onwards) curriculum has 4 semesters with core CS papers (Programming in Python, OOPs, DBMS, Networks, OS, Software Engineering, Web Tech, AI fundamentals) plus electives. Final semester is a dissertation project worth 12 credits. The course mirrors industry hiring patterns more closely than the legacy syllabus.

Are IGNOU MCA project guidelines strict?

Yes — the MCA project (MCSP-272) is worth 12 credits and IGNOU enforces format, original-work declaration, and viva. Synopsis approval is mandatory before you start. Most rejections happen at synopsis stage for vague problem statements or plagiarised abstracts. We share approved synopsis templates in the MCA community.
